In order for you to create and live the perfect life for you, you should definitely meditate! Meditation makes the process so much easier. Many people think to meditate you have to sit with your legs crossed chanting “Ommmmmmmmm”.
While a rhythmic mantra is common, meditation looks different for everyone. Personally, I like to lay down, I sometimes sit up in a chair, but regularly I’m laying down. I will sit up if I’m tired and don’t want to fall asleep during my session. Sometimes I say absolutely nothing, other times I chant “love” in my head (Because I love love!…feeling it, giving it, being it ) and sometimes I just focus on situations to get clarity or guidance from the Divine.
I began meditating in 2011, after a traumatizing event that almost sent me back to my hometown, Detroit! I was left feeling broken, defeated and I was in a space where I was constantly searching for peace. A friend recommended “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy, a wonderful read. (I recommend to anyone just learning how powerful the mind truly is.) The book suggested meditating so I gave it a go just once to music. I really enjoyed it and I‘ve been hooked ever since. Meditation is the ultimate relaxer and brings peace, love and joy. Studies have shown that meditation promotes healing. Who wouldn’t want all that goodness in their life?! I do! Just thinking of where mediation takes you gives me goosebumps, and excites the heaven out of me! Meditation for me is the gateway to the Divine, where I find infinite love and energy.
My first meditation when I really noticed my body, it was weird. Lol Mostly weird because I never felt that way before. I got warm all over and I could feel myself shifting back and forward, almost like my body was vibrating. It honestly felt so awesome and I wish I could experience that feeling again however, I quickly learned that no two meditation sessions are the same! Which is definitely cool too! So, don’t expect yours to be like mine or for your next session to be like your last. While I was meditating this particular time I was practicing quieting my mind. Once i started to come back I heard the end of a thought creep back in, it was the craziest thing I had experienced. I can’t remember the exact thought but if i were thinking “I love you.” all I heard was “ve you” lol. At that point I knew I did it, and I was telling everyone!
There are many different types of meditation, I’m just going to go over the basics. Consider meditation quieting or maybe evening turning your mind off and giving it a break. EVEN while you’re sleeping, your mind is still working. So, it’s cool to take a break at least once a day!
Think of mediation as going to Nirvana! Yes, you read correctly… that’s probably the best way to describe it with words. Okay! Let’s get to it…
Meditation Made Easy:
Find a spot.
Where are some places you can meditate without any noise, distractions, and interruptions?
I have a few go to spots. When I’m at home I’ll get comfortable on my sofa, on my yoga mat or lying across my bed. I never get under the blankets because I may get to comfy and fall asleep. When I’m on the go, my car is the perfect meditation station lol. I’ve even meditated at work in my spa in between clients. Some days call for that.
Take about 10 deep breaths or more until you are completely relaxed.
Every deep breath I take I use its exhale to relax every muscle in my body from head to toe. Try starting with the top of your head, then ears, jaw line, and shoulders. Keep going until you’ve reached your toes, you then should be completely relaxed.
Start a mantra.
Once you are relaxed start a mantra or subject you would like to focus on (example: love, peace, joy, a name for your new business OR nothing at all). If you go with a mantra or subject you should choose this before you start to ensure smooth transitioning. If you aren’t won over by any
of those, try a guided meditation from Youtube or an app. They work just as great!
Note: Some of my favorite videos are:
When your mind starts to wander off “Oh, what am I going to cook for dinner?”, simply refocus on your mantra or subject. Your mind is a muscle that you are just beginning t use in this capacity so like i always say… be patient with yourself and enjoy the process!
So now, you’ve finally reached this place and you KNOW you’ve done it! Whoop! Whoop! Lol Pay attention to the feelings of your body, there may be tingling, you may feel as light as a feather, you may feel nothing, but the possibilities are endless so do not put any limitations on yourself!
Practice this for 15 minutes a day. Before you know it you’ll be addicted like me and doing it longer and multiple times a day. When you get stuck, sad or someone pisses you off, I promise this will be your new go to!
Im super excited about your meditation experiences, try it out and tell me how it goes!!! Until next time… Peace and Love!
